My name is Laurie Sánchez. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for over 30 years and we have four wonderful sons. I have loved and collected dolls (mostly vintage) for many, many years, and despite being surrounded by five men and their toys, I’ve managed to amass a sizeable collection. In my quest to add to it, I discovered the wonderful art of "reborning" baby dolls at a doll and teddy bear show. I was immediately taken with these lifelike baby dolls, and was determined to learn how to create my own.
After retiring from employment in the public sector in September 2006, I took advantage of the opportunity to read and research anything and everything I could get my hands on about reborning. I have since indulged myself in the art, which combines my love of babies with my love of dolls. I have also been fortunate enough to attend workshops and take classes with several renowned reborn artists. I have created over 50 reborn baby dolls that have been adopted by collectors all over the United States and abroad.
In June 2008, I was proud to receive the 2008 IDEX/Tiny Treasures Award by Doll Reader Magazine for “Best Rooting” in the Reborn Baby Dolls category. Considering the number of beautiful “babies” entered in the contest, this was quite an honor! Most recently, I received 2nd and 3rd place awards for rooting at the 2009 Tiny Treasures Show.
I love to watch the reactions of people and to see the joy my reborn babies bring when someone cuddles one for the first time. Whether they are a reminder of one’s own newborn baby or a treasured childhood memory, these wonderful babies truly capture the heart!
